I’m not currently taking on new projects, but if you’d like a recommendation on an editor, please and I can try to help.
In addition to website consultations, I also offer editing and proofreading services for books, short stories and online materials.
Copy Editing:
Copy editing includes the nitty-gritty details of polishing your writing: grammar, punctuation and spelling. That’s not all though! When I copy edit I also look for; inconsistencies in style, formatting and facts; continuity of plot and/or characters in fiction or creative non-fiction; and repetitive words and phrases.
When I copy edit your work, I’ll also point out anything that I think might make your readers go, “hunh?” and give you tips on how to make your writing even better.
Proofreading:
Proofreading includes reading the final ‘proofs’ of a story, manuscript or eBook before it goes to ‘print’ and identifying any formatting issues or wicked typos. Nowadays ‘print’ can mean being sent off to Amazon and others for distribution, or it can mean a good old-fashioned trip to the printer’s.
When I’m proofreading I’m looking to make sure formatting is correct (captions match with images, chapter headings all look the same and are in the correct order, etc.) and keeping an eye out for any embarrassing typos that managed to slip through previous edits.
Hiring a proofreader is a good option for writers who are publishing, or those who are sending work out to contests or journals and want someone to take one final look at it.
